http://www.profitableinvestingtips.com/investing-tips/beware-of-marijuana-stocks Beware of Marijuana Stocks Now that Colorado has legalized marijuana for recreational use, should you jump in with both feet or beware of marijuana stocks. We are, by the way, discussing investment in marijuana related businesses and not your own recreational use! Is there money to be made investing in marijuana stocks? Fundamental analysis of these stocks is, well, fundamental. Marijuana is legal for medical use in California and New York may also make medical marijuana legal. Colorado is the first to legalize the plant for recreational use but others may follow. Which businesses will be profitable and which will be able to scale up when the opportunity arises? But, before looking at a couple of stocks, here is a bit about the law in Colorado. Colorado Marijuana Use Law Colorado has two sets of laws regarding marijuana. These have to do with recreational use and medical use. Colorado Amendment 64 states: Adults aged twenty-one or older can grow up to three immature and three mature cannabis plants privately in a locked space, legally possess all cannabis from the plants they grow (as long as it stays where it was grown), legally possess up to one ounce of cannabis while traveling, and give as a gift up to one ounce to other citizens 21 years of age or older. Consumption is permitted in a manner similar to alcohol, with equivalent offenses proscribed for driving. Public consumption remains illegal. Amendment 64 also provides for licensing of cultivation facilities, product manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, and retail stores. This law allows for sales of marijuana for recreational use, taxation of profits from these facilities, and various ordinances relating to such establishments. It is the potential for profit from recreational use of marijuana that is of primary interest for those investing in marijuana stocks. Beware of marijuana stocks that do not comply with the law in Colorado.

Even though medical marijuana has been proven to have lots of benefits when it comes to treatment of various diseases, it is very important for people to use it in a responsible way. Licensed medical marijuana dispensaries usually provide guidelines for using this drug in the safest and mature way possible. Users should adhere to these guidelines for reasons of public health, public safety as well as economics and justice.

How California Marijuana Dispensaries Got Started And Some History Some call it the “green rush” – referencing marijuana from California. Marijuana growers account for $14 billion a year in sales in California, making it the state’s most valuable cash crop. The acceptance of marijuana in California started with the Moscone Act in 1976 changed violation for small-scale possession from a felony to a misdemeanor in California. The law was pressed because of a high number of marijuana arrests clogging the criminal system. Then in 1979, Berkeley, California voters passed the Berkeley Marijuana Initiative, an ordinance that makes the possession, cultivation, sale and transportation of marijuana the police department’s lowest priority. The law is still on the books today. This was the beginning California’s medical marijuana laws and set the stage for future medical dispensaries and marijuana from California. 1st Medical Marijuana From California California was the first state in America that legalized marijuana for medical purposes. Medical cannabis may be legally used and cultivated by qualified patients in California under Proposition 215, provided they have an approval from a licensed physician. Laws legalizing medical marijuana in California were approved on November 6, 1996 with a 56% vote. The law removed criminal penalties on a state-level that involves usage, possession and farming of medical cannabis. Supporters of medical marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. Patients who are recommended by their physicians to use medical cannabis for treatment are provided legal protection under this law. An amendment to the law was approved in 2003 imposing guidelines on the amount of medical marijuana to be used or cultivated by patients and their caregivers. The amendment also created a medical marijuana patient registry established by the California Department of State Health. For California marijuana dispensaries, this amendment gave them legal protection from the state. The Start Of California Marijuana Dispensaries The San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club was the first public medical marijuana dispensary in America. The club was established in 1992. The name eventually changed to Cannabis Cultivators Club and Cannabis Healing Club. To date, the largest medical marijuana dispensary is also located in California. Harborside Health Center, which opened in 2006 and caters to more than 100,000 patients. Just last year, Harborside Health Center got into a controversy when the landlords complained that the center violated federal laws. Court proceedings are still being done to date. As with other medical marijuana dispensaries all over the country, California marijuana dispensaries have helped to provide the foundation and structure how dispensaries operate in other states. L

what-do-you-think-about-recreational-marijuana-and-medical-marijuanaWhat Do You Think About Recreational Marijuana And Medical Marijuana?
from GreenCulturED, ago in
Frame1 – What Do You Think About Recreational Marijuana And Medical Marijuana Vote Frame2 – Should recreational marijuana be legalized? And what about your medical marijuana vote… Public opinion in the United States and several countries in Europe and Latin America are grappling with this controversial issue. Medical marijuana is a growing industry, more and more people are hearing about this marijuana vote that has been sweeping our nation. Medical marijuana bills have legally been adopted in numerous states and even federal government in the District of Columbia and, as most know, Colorado and Washington have fully legalized marijuana for recreational use by adults. “This is really grounding breaking,” said Beau Kilmer, co-director of the Rand Drug Research Policy Center. “No modern jurisdiction has ever removed the prohibition on the production and possession of marijuana for recreational purposes…since no one has done this before, there are a lot of uncertainties.” There are several opinions against marijuana use in general and on the opposite side you will hear of positive arguments about the usage of marijuana. A good example is to take a look back at our own history (we’ve all heard history repeats itself) and look at the prohibition of alcohol. Alcohol was considered evil, the government made it illegal and that was what provided the foundation for the mob to make millions of tax free money. Or that by having a vote to legalize marijuana would increase tax revenues for the government and to not make it as profitable on the black market to discourage where most of marijuana is sold today. You might have heard of the recent actions of Congress Representatives Blumenauer and Polis released a report outlining the need for federal marijuana law reform, titled “The Path Forward: Rethinking Federal Marijuana Policy.” An effort is building in Congress to make a marijuana vote that would change United States’ laws, including moves to legalize the production of industrial hemp and create a federal tax. It introduces federal measures to legalize cannabis that would allow states and voters to decide if they will regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol. Ending marijuana prohibition by regulating it like alcohol is said that it will generate tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue for state and local governments in this growing industry. Allen St. Pierre, executive director of NORML, a national group that lobbies for legalization, said he has heard from friends and family already planning trips to Colorado for the “cannabis tourism” that will certainly become popular. It is necessary to consider how marijuana and medical marijuana legalization is creating a totally unique industry in the United States and how it will impact parents, heavy users, medical users, employers, state and local economies, and even the drug traffickers.
